How to use the scoreboard

Set up your teams and scoring rules before the class game starts. Keep the point values consistent during the round so you can update scores without stopping to explain each change.

  1. Choose 2 to 8 teams with One team fewer or One team more, then enter your team names.
  2. Keep the default score buttons or set your own values in Score buttons.
  3. Enter a goal in Target score, or leave it empty to play without a target.
  4. Select Full screen for the projector, then use each team's score buttons as points are earned or taken away.
  5. Use Undo to correct a change. When you want to start again, select Reset and confirm to set every score to 0.

Team names, points, and keyboard keys

Type team names directly, or make teams in the group generator and select Use teams from the group generator. The teams open on the scoreboard with the same names. Each team has its own color and shape, so you do not have to rely on color alone to tell them apart.

Each team starts with buttons for +1, +5, +10 and −1. You can set up to 6 score steps of your own, or add or take away a custom amount. Negative scores are allowed; the range is −9,999 to 99,999.

An optional goal score displays a banner with the team's name when the goal is reached. The leading team is highlighted, but no team is highlighted when all teams are tied. Undo steps back through the last 100 changes, including a reset to zero.

Keys 1 to 8 select a team. The Up arrow or + adds the first score step, which is +1 by default; the Down arrow or − applies the negative step, which is −1 by default. Press U to undo or F to open full screen, and press Esc to leave full screen.

Ways to use class team points

Decide what earns points before you begin, then keep the scoreboard visible while teams play. Use a target for a game with a point goal, or leave it empty when you plan to stop at the end of the activity.

  • Run a team vocabulary warm-up at the start of class. Add points for answers that meet your stated rule, and keep the game going until the warm-up ends.
  • Keep points beside a quiz board during a review lesson. Match your score steps to the question values and use the scoreboard for the review round.
  • Track small-group answers during a class discussion. Award points after each group reports back, and keep the same teams for the discussion.
  • Use a target score for a club or classroom game. Show the points throughout play and use the target banner to mark when a team reaches the goal.

Common questions

Can I undo a point?

Yes. Select Undo or press U to step back through the last 100 changes. This includes score changes and a reset to zero, so you can also recover scores after an accidental reset.

Are the scores saved if I close the tab?

Scores and settings stay in this browser, and normally remain when you close and reopen it. There are no accounts, and the scores are not sent to a server. If the browser blocks storage, the tool warns that your work was not saved; private browsing data is cleared when the last private tab closes.

Can I use the scoreboard on a smartboard?

Use Full screen to show only the tool on your smartboard or projector. Each team gets a large column in full screen. You can update scores with the on-screen buttons or keyboard keys, then press Esc to leave full screen.

How many teams can the online scoreboard track?

The scoreboard supports 2 to 8 teams, each with a name, color, and shape. Type the names yourself or bring teams over from the group generator. On a phone, teams appear as rows.

Can I change the point values?

Yes. The default buttons are +1, +5, +10 and −1, but Score buttons lets you set up to 6 steps of your own. You can also add or take away a custom amount without changing those steps.
